BackWhat the Gurus say about Business and the Market
Posted on 10th October 2008
Business and the
Market? BBC breakfast this week has run interviews
with some very high profile figures in the
business world. Of course in the light of the
latest market news the questions being asked to
these gurus are all quite close. We've summarized
a couple of the main points below followed by a
few helping points.
Are
businesses really doing as bad as everyone makes
out?
No, most
business have had to cut back a peg or two but
sales are still up and business is still there to
be collected.
So
what’s all this talk of Doom and
Gloom?
It’s
doom and gloom on the stock markets, which lost
$250Bn this week, but what does that really mean?
Yes we lost $250Bn, which is a lot of money, but
when in context of the stock market this is more
like we lost $250Bn of virtual money. It
doesn’t really exist!
The real people
being hit are the brokers who were cashing in
their $1 Million bonuses last year, and people who
are close to retirement.
Middle England
as Peter Jones puts it, “is really not that
worse off!”
Useful
Suggestions:
- Be wise about your money.
- Speculate, but on investments that are going to help your business run better.
- Look at your operations and think about how you can streamline it.
Now is the time to cut back and lean up your company, so when the market pulls back you’re set to ride the wave!
